Celebrating Bhai Tika

30 Minutes In The Life : Monthly Blog

(October 2022)

I wish I was able to go out shoot more often. My weekends and holidays have been busy doing daddy duties for our little so Azure, who recently turned 8 months old. Coming back to this months theme, Celebrating Bhai Tika, Tihar, the festival of lights. It is a five-day-long festival in the Hindu pantheon. The first day Tihar is Kag Tihar which is worshipping of crow. Second day us Kukur Tihar, worshipping the dog. The third day of Tihar is Laxmi Puja, the worship of the Hindu Wealth Goddess Laxmi. Fourth day is Govardhan Puja, which is worship towards Govardhan mountain. Cow dung is taken as representative of the mountain and is worshiped. Additionally, majority of the Newar community on the night also perform “Mha/ Ma Puja” (worship of self). The fifth or the last day of Tihar is Bhai Tika. Bhai Tika is such a day to pray for the long life of brothers by sisters, which is referred to as Bhai. It is believed that every year, on the Tika day, if a sister puts a Tika (seven colors dots) on her brother’s forehead, then no one can harm her brother. To date, this tradition is followed. Sisters perform puja for their brother’s safety and well-being. Brothers in return put Tika, and give gifts,\ to their sisters as a token of love.

These are taken with Nikon Z 6ii with 24-70 mm both inside and outside our home. Hope you like it.
